Information for schools

Childminder enables you to further safeguard the safety of the children in your care by allowing web site developers around the world to set up child-only chat rooms and other social web resources with the ability to verify and police the age of the children entering them.

Schools are the key to the security of Childminder. We only allow children’s data to be entered onto our system by the schools themselves and because of this only school pupils can find their way into our database.

Anonymity

We have strived to keep the information stored about your pupils as anonymous as possible. We only store three pieces of information: a scrambled version of their e-mail address and their date of birth rounded to the first of the month, and a reference to the school through which they joined. Here’s how it looks:

E-mail address (scrambled) Date of birth School
j280s73lod872h46mnxwiu7w2l96acv 01/06/1997 1

So, as you can see, the information is completely anonymous and even if our database were to be copied the thieves would not be able to identify any pupil contained within it.

When third-party web sites ask us for age-verification of a certain e-mail address we never supply any information beyond the confirmation/denial that the address corresponds to a person of the required age. The date of birth is never released.

Privacy

We do not keep any record of the pupils you enter into our system, only your school’s contact details. For further information please refer to our Privacy page.
